Establish routines and rituals The first few weeks with your newborn aren't always predictable. But as much as you can, establish small routines and rituals that help you and your baby gets to know each other. For example, spend a few minutes cuddling or rocking after feeding or look out a window together when you get up in the morning. Repeated positive experiences provide children with a sense of security. Be patient with yourself in these first weeks. Caring for a new child can be daunting, discouraging, thrilling and perplexing-all in the same hour! In time, your skills as a parent will grow, and you will come to love this little one far more than you could have imagined.
